SCRA Presidents Message

February, 2009

A new year is in full swing with State Cup and National Cup games in progress. We recently concluded a successful Eclipse tournament a couple of weeks back that took place locally in South Orange County.  The amazing thing about the tournament for us, it was remotely assigned in China when Mike Willmott was there on business. Ken Bruette supported Mike in covering any shortfalls and making sure nothing fell through the cracks. It really emphasized how useful Arbiter is as a tool for assigning games whether you’re assigning from home or several thousand miles away.

Membership Numbers:

For 2009 we currently have about 385 certified referees. Most individuals have begun receiving there 2009 badges so if you do not receive your certification packages shortly, please follow-up and reference the list of registered referees on the Cal South SRC website. Remember, we cannot assign you games if you are not on the 2009 registered list of certified referees. If you have any questions or issues, you can contact Penny Rehm, the Registrar for Cal South, Jerry Zimmerle, Ken Bruette or myself.

Internal Ranking:

As mentioned during January’s membership meeting, we have updated all the referee ranking s into Arbiter. Please review your ranking by accessing your Account Information, Misc Field menu. If you notice any discrepancies to your ranking, or if you would like to request a ranking upgrade, please forward your requests to Mark Rogers, Director of Development or any Board member.

Upgrades:

If you are considering upgrading your USSF badge level in 2009, now is the time to contact Mark Rogers to be placed on a list for field assessments.  This also includes maintenance assessments for state referees.

Arbiter Status:

We are continuing our efforts to utilize Arbiter and all its features that are applicable to our needs. As we implement these enhancements, we will keep you informed on those changes.

Assignment Turnback or Declines:

Adherence to our turnback or decline policy outside of personal emergencies will be high on our list for 2009. We all understand things happen beyond our control and we will work with you to address those situations. For excuses other than personal emergencies, we will follow through with our current policy posted on the website.

Survey Monkey:

In order to better understand how we are doing as a Board of Directors, we will be sending you an electronic survey that we hope you will complete. Our goal is to review your feedback whether positive or negative and make changes where you see improvement is needed. We will begin sending these out shortly and appreciate all your help in letting us know how you feel.

KIDSAFE Risk Management:

This is a reminder to attend our membership meeting in March to hear all the developing news regarding Risk Management from Penny Rehm, Registrar for Cal South. As you may recall, you will not be able to referee in 2010 unless you have all your records up-to-date. Our understanding regarding this new program is for the safety of the kids. Please make sure you make every effort to attend.

As I close my message to you, I look forward in the coming months to working with all of you. Remember to work on your fitness and always hydrate before and after your workouts. Let’s continue to work together and be the best you can be and until we meet again, be safe, healthy and happy….

Sincerely,

Marcel Caruana

President
