As we end 2006, lets reflect on a few items that made 2006 a memorable year
.
-
The year showed a 17% increase in the number of new referees to the Association. The performance of these new referees was hailed as very good and game control methods were consistent with the laws of the game.
-
Over 350 referees from SCRA are registered with USSF, 40% of them are youth referees. The youth referee program is alive and well and those individuals are growing as referees by transitioning from AR positions to center referees. And the feedback on the process has been overwhelmingly positive.
-
We conducted 10 training sessions (thats 10 hours of training credit toward re-certification) covering topics such as fouls and misconduct, writing match reports, Law XI (Offside), game management and The Soccer Bowl (back by popular demand again this month at the monthly membership meeting).
-
We had a number of upgrades from 8s to 7s and from 7s to 6 (State). Congratulations to you all.
Now what should we look forward to in 2007
.
-
Better understanding and knowledge of the Laws. This will require reading the Laws of the Game and attending meetings on the first Tuesday of every month to get the requisite training for recertification.
-
A well dressed and equipped referee group, i.e., shirts of different colors beginning with yellow, black and red (in that order) to look professional.
-
Getting more youth referees to become center officials, with the help of a mentoring program and seasoned ARs to make the transition smoothly.
-
And finally (but not the least)
.
See you on the pitch!
